RULES
A. General Rules
1. Red Cup Classic Mud Volleyball is designed to be a fun recreational experience, and not overly
competitive.
2. No re entry into event.
3. No one under 21 years of age allowed in the event. No pets!
4. Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in forfeit or removal from the Event and grounds. Unsportsmanlike
conduct can include but is not limited to the following: arguing, profanity, gestures and physical attacks
directed toward players, referees, staff, spectators, and/or officials.
5. Persons under 21 years of age are not permitted to play. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
6. DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN LIQUOR! If you do, your entire team WILL BE disqualified.
7. If any member of your team is involved in a physical confrontation, your entire team will be disqualified.
B. Tournament Format
1. This Tournament is a recreational “Just For Fun” Event.
2. This is a one-day, round-robin Tournament with a single elimination play-off for each area.
3. Six teams play on the same court, 5 matches each, weather permitting. Winning team advances to
Tournament.
4. Round robin matches are for fifteen-minutes or to 25 points; win by 2, 27 point cap.
5. Teams not ready at game time will forfeit that game.
6. Teams will change sides at thirteen (13) points.
7. There will be one winner from each net in round robin play determined in the following order:
a. Winner of the most matches on the net.
c. Total points of all matches played.
d. If there is not a clear winner, it'll be a Tug-O-War.
C. Team Composition
1. All players must be in possession of proof that they are at least 21 years of age.
2. Members of a team may only play on one team during the day.
3. Additions to a team may be accepted ONLY AFTER a new player has signed the roster/waiver.
4. Each team must have a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 players on the court at all times.
5. Teams are co-ed, and must have at least 50% women on the court throughout the match.
6. Shoes must be worn during every match. NO EXCEPTIONS OR EXCUSES
D. Refereeing
1. Mud Volleyball referees will do all refereeing. All judgment calls will be the decision of the referee.
2. The referees will handle disputes.
3. Please be respectful towards referees, they are volunteers.
E. Reporting Match Results
1. Referees will track match results.
2. Court winners will be announced shortly after the round robin.
3. If a game is forfeited, the winning team receives 25 points and the forfeiting team receives 0.
F. First Match of the Day
1. First game starts at 12 noon. Don’t be late! We will not hold rematches and we will not reschedule.
G. Service, Rotation and Substitution
1. Alternate players may rotate in / out only when ball is not in play.
2. Only underhand serves are permitted. Failure to do so will result in a side-out.
3. No more than 3 players may be at the net at one time.
4. Players must rotate in a clockwise rotation through all positions.
H. Ball in Play
1. The only coed rule in effect is that at least 50% of the players on the court must always be female.
2. Up to 3 contacts on the ball each time the ball crosses the net. A block does not count as one of three
hits.
3. Crossing under the net is permitted unless it interferes with the play of the opposing team.
4. Major net violations will be called. Minor contact with the net or contact away from play will not be
considered a violation.
5. Open hand hits are legal provided the ball is not caught, thrown, or otherwise directed.
6. Blocking or attacking (hitting) the serve above the net by a front row player is legal.
7. Balls are called in or out by the ref. In general all balls that hit water first are considered in.
I. Weather Policy
1. The Tournament may be canceled because of weather if dangerous conditions arise.
2. In case of cancellation, winner of the Tournament may be determined by the Tournament Director.
J. Waiver
1. Participating in this event, players agree to accept full liability. Any sponsor or Team Captain will not allow
the Players to take part in Red Cup Classic unless the Players understand and accept all responsibility
and liability for their participation in the Event. Therefore, as consideration for allowing the Players to take
part in Red Cup Classic, the Players agree as follows:
a. The Players wish to take part in the Red Cup Classic despite any and all dangers associated with
such participation;
b. The Players acknowledge that they are duly aware of the risks and hazards inherent upon their
participation in the Red Cup Classic;
c. The Players waive and surrender any right to receive specific notice of the existence of
dangerous conditions associated with playing in Red Cup Classic;
d. The Players, their heirs and assigns hereby release the Sponsors, any of their insurers,
indemnitors, successors and assigns from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions and
causes of action whatsoever arising out of or relating to any loss, damage, or injury, including
death, that may be sustained whether past, present, or future, and whether permanent,
continuing or otherwise, in connection with or related in any manner to their participation in Red Cup Classic;
e. The Players further agree that the Sponsors shall not be liable for damages, of any kind, to the
Players, arising out of the Players participation in Red Cup Classic, including, but not limited to,
damages arising out of negligence (including, but not limited to, negligence in the set-up or
operation of Red Cup Classic);
f. Players shall indemnify and hold harmless the Sponsors for all damages, claims, liabilities, and
costs arising out of or resulting from Players participation in Red Cup Classic;
g. The Players warrant that they will wear shoes at all times during play in Red Cup Classic.
h. The Players grant permission to the Sponsors to utilize any and all photographs, videotapes,
recordings, and other reference or records of the events and activities, which are part of Red
Cup Classic.
